I think if anything, The Matrix Resurrections is an argument against the auteur theory. By not bringing back Laurence Fishburne, Don Davis, and the original fight choreographer from the original trilogy, a lot of people have noted how “off” the new film feels. For the first part, they removed all ethnic constraints on the show when they did the inclusive casting. There’s suddenly defining the ethnic identities of any group of people, so why would there be still a requirement for aielmen to be tall, pale and redheaded?

I had kind of a weird realization while watching this episode. On a personal level, this was the first time it really hit me that I think this show is really bad and I absolutely wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Not just that, but I kind of regret that I suggested it before to a couple of friends to watch.
