But why would the Roanoke colonists speak Middle English???? More than a century off, yes?

My mom bought me Rubber Soul for Christmas when I was 8 (American version), so it remains my favorite Beatles to this day. I've Just Seen a Face is a terrific song. I think John Lennon was always "cooler," but his music wasn't any better than Paul's. All his bad mouthing was just jealousy at having to share the…
We live in a really sexist society where women are still having to "make it in a man's world," so being really pretty is an effective strategy to get men to like you/give you a chance. There are a lot of successful women who have parlayed their looks+abilities into long careers, so I'm not sure it's true that being…
I don't care how she looks (straight woman here), but she seems to know how to cook, so I guess I can get past all the "look at how pretty I am" stuff.
He didn't seem to mind taking that role…
Surf guy (Jason) probably wasn't the worst chef there, but he was easily the most pompous and self-centered, so glad he's gone. His ego (to glad hand the diners) was what led to him making that fatal mistake with the yucky salmon wraps. Who declares that they're poor losers and goes on to talk about how angry they…
Did Person of Interest get any better than the first 5 or so episodes? Because I tried it, and found it wanting.
Guest judge was Curtis stone (host of Top Chef Masters). Also Sara (head scarf person) made a spicy Chinese General tso's chicken or something, not chili. Maybe the male and female bimbos can cook, and they're not just stunt casting. One can hope. I also don't like this new watching the judges deliberate thing; I…
This couldn't sound worse.
This sounds similar to my experience. It was almost as bad as Tim Burton's Dark Shadows. Both of these movies were execrable. In a really bizarre way. Like, it's bizarre anyone could have written, filmed, acted, edited, released, and marketed movies this bad.
My parents were wacko hippie types. I was exposed to all sorts of stuff. I'll never forget when my mom took me and 2 friends to see "Tattoo" with Bruce Dern. We were 11. To her credit, she didn't quite realize the content was so adult. Can't say I liked THAT movie.
I really loved this movie when it came out. I was 9 or 10, so I probably didn't get it all, but it seemed really deep to me at the time. Plus, singing and dancing!
I think I like "Buzz Factory" best, but really, I love all their stuff; they get a bit slick on their later albums, but even then, there are some blistering songs. I like most of the Mark Lanegan solo stuff, but there are some places where we part ways… I think his voice is starting to suffer on the newer stuff,…
That said, not sure about this album…
Love me some Mark Lanegan…
Exactly. At the time, I felt like (based on the whole, "It's not *sniff* science fiction," brouhaha) that she thought she could get away with a short trifle that wasn't nearly long enough or fleshed out because it's "literature." Year of the Flood redeemed her/Oryx in my eyes.
I didn't love Oryx and Crake, and even gave the hard back to the goodwill, but I read Year of the Flood, and really loved it. I think the thing I didn't like about Oryx and Crake is that it just wasn't enough; it seemed unfinished, and not in a good way. But Year of the Flood made it whole. Hopefully this new book…
As a pubescent 13 year old, I saw the Hunger and developed a huge crush on David Bowie. It was everything Bowie for the next year: I bought a bunch of old albums (Ziggy Stardust, Diamond Dogs, etc.) and rented his old movies, and bought biographies and the like. Let's Dance had just come out, but hadn't reached super…
Amazingly, this article has been up for more than an hour at this point, and it still hasn't been fixed!
I loved this movie when it was originally released as I was 14 years old. That said, the love interest guy is totally unappealing.
