I actually liked the American Life On Mars. And I saw the British version first. Frankly, the British ending was horrible, and the American one had to wrap it up pretty quick, so I think they did the best they could. Noone is ever happy with final episodes, it seems.

I don't understand how Red Beard can be "Advanced." It at least "deserves Intermediate." I need to rewatch it now.

Don't forget the Emperor and the Wolf about Kurosawa and Mifune.

Sword of Doom was mentioned in another thread, but anyone see Harakiri (1962(? It was freaking awesome. Same director of Samurai Rebellion with Mifune (also pretty awesome).

I like to call it "See-Fee" because the name is so stupid. Also, they cancelled Farscape, so they can suck it.

Toshiro Mifune fan site
My fan site is embarrassingly old (established 1996), but I swear an update is in the works:

Looved the Pete Townshend comment. Makes me love David Mitchell all the more.

I was a big fan of the movie when it came out (I was 12, and had a big crush on Jeff Bridges). I just rewatched it, and you know, it held up pretty well. It was a fun/sweet/geeky movie aimed at that age group, and I think it delivered.

Jews get very defensive about anti-Jewish crap because of history, and anti-Jewish sentiment never seems to go away, no matter what Jews (apparently all Jews are responsible for what other Jews do) are or aren't responsible for. Now it's Israel as the justification, but before Israel, it was being

I just think that you should make the point that the US etc. were all fine with Fascism until it turned on them, WITHOUT saying that it's the Jews' fault that we don't know about it. In fact, that seems pretty incorrect, and just plain anti-semitic, because it IS so out of left field. I think that we as a country have

Agree that the Magnificent 7 doesn't hold a candle to 7 Samurai. I was shocked at how lame the Mag 7 was in comparison way back when I saw it.

I say stick with it a little longer. The action story when it gets going is first rate. And all that slog at the beginning pays off later in how you feel invested in the world he created.

The Hit
I saw The Hit when it came out, and was really impressed with everyone, inc. Tim Roth. I'm very pleased to see him with a higher profile lately. He makes Lie to Me.

It's like Friday Buzzkills is back!

Dear God sounds execrable. Probably because THERE IS NO GOD!

I tried watching it; it was terrible. I don't know what he's thinking.

I was telling my 14-year old son recently about the Garden of the Finzi-Continis, and he was surprised that there was such a thing as Italian Cinema. Then he asked if the French had many movies… I've clearly not done my job. Also, missing the whole art-house movie scene in America which has almost completely

This would be funnier if I'd ever read anything by Ayn Rand, but I appreciate it nonetheless! Plus, Sean wrote a very good piece eviscerating Ayn Rand last year, so it's only to be expected…

Yeah, these "classics of Christian literature" are pretty much a bummer to reread as an atheist adult. Heck, I was an atheist kid, but I couldn't parse the allegory back then.

How did this movie even merit a D…
