The comments section has gone downhill, sure, but so has everything else. You used to read Steven Hyden’s music criticism here. Now, you read reviews of his book that take him to task for writing a volume about classic rock that has too many white guys in it. Perhaps it’s a valid critique, but reading it is a real

The AV Club is pretty great these days.

I grew up in the 80's, and I read a lot of Mad paperbacks, which recycled stuff from earlier decades. I never got all the references to Moxie and Spiro Agnew, and I was totally clueless about parodies like The China Sin-Dome. (The Spiro Agnew thing was later parodied on the Simpsons, if I remember correctly.)

It’s rare that I find a TV character as loathsome as I’ve found Piper these least 2 seasons. Somehow, prison has made her softer, more self-pitying, and more cluelessly elitist.

You are right. He is a hideous, hideous person who deserves to be sued into oblivion.

Does it get any lower than exploiting the parents of slain children? How despairing to think that the current occupier of the White House was once happily a guest on this vile demagogue’s radio program. Peas in a pod, I reckon.

Hoping Cherry will be an antidote to the bland MFA fiction that is so overpraised these days. I’m reading The Girls by Emma Cline, and the prose could have been written by half a dozen other writers, from Celeste Ng to Lauren Groff to whoever. Then again, we inhabit a literary climate where Roxanne Gay is considered

I know this terrible, terrible news. I beg you not to harm yourself.

The show itself is probably great. It’s the comment I was referring to.

No. You made an earnest comment. You got a lot of shit for the earnest comment. Feeling stung by the criticism, you began telling people that, actually, you were only making a joke that none of them were sophisticated enough to understand.

How tiresome.

You’ve...been trolling us this whole time, haven’t you?

How does this motherfucker still get upvotes (or whatever you call them these days)? Five of them so far, for a post about how people shouldn’t make jokes.

He made some off-color jokes, and now he has to go away, despite having used his talent and ambition to bring joy to millions.

William Hughes is like if recognitions got to write for the AV Club.

Jesus, the AV Club used to be great.

In a completely unexpected move, Lynch is being weird for the sake of being weird.

I can’t understand why so many lefties hate him. I don’t always agree with him, but he’s a hundred percent right about Trump, the environment, drug laws, and a whole bunch of other stuff. I would hate to see him disappear from public life.

Samantha Bee criticizes powerful people in a humorous, often crude way. That’s her thing, and she shouldn’t have to apologize for it.

You’re trolling us, right?
