I think everyone needs to take a chill pill. This rule pretty much prohibits vehicles that don’t meet EPA on highway standards from running. If you have a catalytic converter, and meet the standards nobody will care.

I own 2012 one but the wife drives it on a daily basis. It’s basically a family car. I commute daily in my GTI but drive camry on the weekend. It does the job and that’s why we have it.

Are they quite fun? yes. Have I driven one? Yes. Would I own one? yes, if it wasn’t near $30k for the one I wanted. I ended up with a GTI exactly 12 months ago and I could not be happier.
