The oil is a cost for oil refiners, not a product.

It also makes perfect sense that oil companies make money when oil is cheap.  If you make a set amount per barrel, and that barrel is cheaper, you will sell more barrels.

I purchased refined petroleum products and plastics during the pandemic, so I am not that surprised.
