You might wanna consider that the game wasn't intended solely for PC. I know you PC people think that it's the be-all, end-all for gaming, but consoles and controllers sometimes work better and feel better. So, they catered the controls to both, but some things just work better without a mouse and keyboard.

I played the game too in analog mode and it was horrible, but I did it with an NES controller, so that may factor in.
