As far as Story is concerned, each nintendo franchise tends to stick to one timeless story, over and over again, and woe to the game that tries to put a twist on existing charcters. (Metroid other M) I would argue that the only Nintendo franchise that seems immune to this is Starfox, where fans are more up in arms…

I would argue that Nintendo does it's own thing because Nintendo already won it's console war. Argue Master Chief vs Nathon Drake until you're blue in the face, while I get Mario, Sonic, Megaman and Pacman in a single game... on Nintendo's console. Perhaps the winner of Sony vs Microsoft can challange the champion. :p

Honestly, Microsoft is the one who have no real need to make a console. Not only is their system a "black box'd" Windows PC anyway, but the XBOX division has been a drain on company resources for years- nowhere near enough to make the corporate giant flinch, but enough to make shareholders whine about their dividend…

As a "family friendly game", I'm thinking it's something like a Wii game that will be marketed to girlfriends of gamers, or something. Nothing much to offer, and doomed to be quickly buried by 1st party software. Best to savve it for the next game drought.
