Yeah some people like the magic of being able to get lost, but frankly that’s only good if you have a very detailed physical map to pair with it. The maps that came with the game were more artistic and distant if I remember right, so not much help.

Morrowind on Xbox was my first experience with a Bethesda game. One great thing about that game was that dungeons had unique hand-placed loot. The bad thing about that is you can find something, sell it to a Mudcrab and only realize later it was needed for the main quest.
