Most of the high traffic areas in Honolulu have magnetic sensors buried in the pavement. They don't seem that expensive to implement.

Many instances of these oddities would need to be referenced and studied by meteorologists to come to any sort of scientifically sound conclusion about the overall status of the planet's climate.
