Eyes are so large in cartoons because, as the saying goes, eyes are the window to the soul. Its easier for cartoons to express emotion via their eyes, so the viewers can see it better. Hence the reason cartoons have larger heads and eyes.

I thought it was pretty decent too. And with the new scenes, a lot of the old version makes more sense now.
