You clearly don’t understand sarcasm.

I know.  Fahey said there’d be no games and I was being a smartass.

That was the point...though any free hardware you can get is hardware worth having assuming it’s not garbage.

So, their free tier is basically NOT using Stadia?  Well, Google’s gonna corner the gaming market since EVERYONE is now on the Google Stadia platform by that definition.

I know how Stadia works.  That’s why Fahey’s suggestion that you get “no games” made no sense and I was being a smartass.

Ninja-edit makes no difference since I never expected hardware.

That’s basically claiming that people who don’t buy anything on Steam use their platform.  Basically, all of humanity is going to be subscribed to the free version of Stadia day one!

That’s my point in replying to Fahey.  It makes no sense for there to be “no games” as their free tier since, unless they’re giving away hardware, the free tier is basically not using Stadia.

Which is dumb as hell on Google’s part since EVERYONE will be claiming a free Chromecast just to use it for video streaming, not Stadia.  You can have a Chromecast and do nothing that directly makes Google any money.

That’s kind of my point.  What the hell is Fahey talking about “no games” when that’s basically all they can give away for free since hardware isn’t even necessary for Stadia.

Then what are they including in the free package?  A storefront?  Welcome to basically every digital storefront EVER.

That’s my thinking as well, buy Fahey implied that you wont have ANY games. My response was an incredulous response to the idea of them giving away hardware...the least relevant part of Stadia.

Give people free hardware of any type, and they’ll swoop in on it and make it do something other than its intended use.  If nothing else, you’ll have people coming out of the woodworks for a free controller and Chromecast even if they never touch Stadia.

The “connection” is already free by those standards. All you need is a Chromecast and a controller...and technically you don’t even need the controller if you’re using a PC I believe, though it’s supposed to perform better.

If they’re giving away free hardware, people will be doing whatever the hell they can with it. Even if that just means getting a free Chromecast.

So, this is supposed to be hardware that they’re giving away?  This will certainly be a boon for modders...

Not quite.  1080p is still the basic standard for most cases.  There’s also the bandwidth issue to consider when it comes to streaming, so even if you have the hardware, it doesn’t necessarily mean you want to use the highest resolution because of bandwidth concerns.

In 2020, Google will launch a “Stadia Base” model that’s totally free, but only allows you to play games at 1080p resolution.

This is very similar to the whole RDR2 and Pinkerton lawsuit...albeit several decades too early.

I’d rather miss YOUR point thsn to miss the point that human lives trump your opinion.
