Torch, you're like the train engineer that can see the impending collision with the other train; there isn't a damn thing you can do about the outcome, you just have a few more minutes to worry about it than the guy sipping coffee in the back.

Just one of the many reasons I stopped subscribing to car mags over a decade ago. I just wish the car makers would re-focus their wasted press efforts and use the time/money to get cars into the hands of actual future car buyers. Why the hell does no one have an arrive-and-drive day for a bunch of people who are…
Agreed. I think this was the perfect car for law enforcement. It just adds to the image that they will go full-metal LAPD on you if you so much as step foot outside a crosswalk line. With this new car, I'm afraid that I'll get beat for laughing at how it looks in law enforcement trim.
Very clever, especially for one who has such a screen name. ;-)
For the sake of not writing a book, I chose to pick only one facet of the supplier-customer dynamics in Detroit. I didn't mention anything about brutality, distrust, and unique politics that exist. There was a good book written called "The End of Detroit" many years ago; it had accurately predicted what we've seen…
Great story! (Well, except the part about your wife's lay off. ) Pretty much sums it up.
As far as I know, the give-back pricing has been uniquely a Detroit thing. I think Walmart just uses medieval torture devices. ;-)
2nd Gear: Yeah, GM pretty much did it to themselves. The supplier-customer relationship in Detroit was unlike anywhere else in business. All the suppliers would foam at the mouth to get a contract with GM because they had dollar signs in their eyes over GM's volumes. GM saw this and would take them to the mat for…

Yeah, that's what's scaring me; the "public" part. Its one thing to be forced by your boss to do the wrong thing and then get fired for it, it's on a completely different level when everyone in the world sees you get blamed for it. Good luck with the job hunt, then. Taking away a person's livelihood should be a…
What worries me about this precedent is that engineers have now become global targets for this stuff. The problem is that they're not compensated for this risk, as are the CFOs, CEOs, etc., and often they don't have the proper authority to deal with it. It should be people much higher up than Ray DeGiorgio falling…
Andrew, can you get in contact with Tesla and find out if there is anything special about these trucks? I know Roush makes CNG vehicles for city fleets and such; just wondering if Tesla is using something special. I would think they'd tell you...
It's good to see someone else out here who has appreciation of such things. Maybe I'm not ready for the rubber room just yet!
Wow. Troll much? It's a shame that optometrists are only able to correct for nearsightedness of the eyes.
Loping, I've been frustrated with the Dinan-hating crowd myself. They often claim it's garbage (and really only because it's expensive). Fact is, Steve has some really sharp people working there and they can produce stuff that is about as close to OEM quality as aftermarket can get. People who are fixated on price…
Nice review Torch. I think you were fair and just. Interestingly, I shared many of the same thoughts about the car. For the guy that wants a raging mad 1M and has the means, it's a pretty impressive little car .
Hmm. Saying that a 7-seat SUV would come if they voted down unionization, then a $300 mil offer surfaces. Seems like a stunt worthy of being devised by Frank Underwood.
It's your right to believe what you want but I ask that you just be careful what you present as fact. You'd be surprised who some of your fellow Jalops are...
OK I'm really not trying to be a jerk here, but how did you determine that the 3.8 is good for 700 hp reliably? You've admitted that the Porsche engineers can work magic, so what makes you think there isn't a legitimate reason for their decision on precisely 560 hp? Actually there is. In the automotive world it's…
So a summary of this conversation...
