Definitely give the Dune and Children of Dune mini-series(es) a watch if you can. The cast is strong with good performances, effects are pretty decent, the story hews pretty closely to the books, and the pacing is good — you don’t feel like it drags, or rushes, and still manages to hit the major plot points and high

The new production could have used the Stewart line “mood is for cattle and loveplay”.

Let’s not forget the early 2000s SciFi Channel productions of Dune and Children of Dune, which have flaws but also various superior qualities over the Lynch and Villenueve movies.

Eh, Villenueve’s version left out too many important story elements for my taste. Lynch hit all the important beats and made a much more interesting movie, both visually and story wise.

Anything that could be salvaged from the original production would suffer badly by comparison to Villenueve’s version, so I don’t see how there’s the first bit of incentive for Lynch to even attempt it.

“Christ, you’re seriously planning to announce a cartoon version of Watchmen with a really ugly art style? When were you planning to do it?

The animated Watchmen was supposed to be headed for a 2024 release, but the trailer’s framing of it as a “movie event” makes it sound like it’s going to end up landing on Max, instead of theaters.

The usual suspects on Twitter are freaking out about this, but Alan Moore doesn’t care and doesn’t worry about this stuff until someone chases him down and asks about it.

DC (and Marvel) are deep into the “mine the IP for all its worth” stage of their life cycles and Watchmen still has some commercial juice left in it.

Jerry Seinfeld has spent more than 20 years watching Larry David prove that he’s who everyone thought Jerry Seinfeld was while watching Seinfeld. And that existential crisis has hounded him more and more each day as everyone cheers on Larry David being both edgy AF and also not a sh**bird pedo like Jerry Seinfeld is.

Jerry was a leader in late 90s ‘gay panic’ jokes.

I know it’s been reviewed on this site, but I urge everyone who sees this to check out I Saw the TV Glow. It’s great to make movies about trans people, but it’s even better when a trans person gets to make a movie.

Jesus, I know Hollywood is totally out of ideas but I thought we had to at least make it 2 years bare minimum to do "nostalgic revivals".

I bet he and Richard Dreyfus fight over which one is the headliner when they go on tour together.

I hope that this means that we, as a society, are starting to abandon arena concerts because, honestly, it’s the worst way to experience music. I’m GenX and it feels like that is when arenas really blew up. I went from watching bands scream at me, a few feet from my face, to hearing that they were playing as tiny

Me too! “Oh yeah! He’s dead! And nobody mentions him ‘cause he was the fucking worst! Wow, today’s a good day.”

People who like word puzzles? I mean what’s the problem with it?

Every so often I remember that Limbaugh died and I get a little frisson of glee.

Remember when Pat Sajak thought Rush Limbaugh would make a good guest host for his talk show, and members of the audience were yelling at him so much they had to clear the theater?

Sweet gig. With that schedule I’d still look good in a dress at 67 years old too.

Good for Pat Sajak, but Vanna White is my hero.
