That makes me miss the old days of Gears where there was just a lot of forward momentum (minus the couple times I couldn’t figure out where the exit was ¯\_(ツ)_/¯).
Haha, I fear Gears has left me behind at this point based on your description.
There’s a larger conversation to be had about the way NFL contracts are in favor of the teams rather than the players (like, I get the whole Leveon Bell thing last year), but Antonio Brown is 100% at fault for losing his money here.
Where she says they “snaked out” of paying him.
Yeah, bullshit. This is 100% on Brown.
I guarantee the studio is looking at the fact that Chiarelli is associated with three movies as a writer and, of those movies, CRA made the least amount of money (at least when you factor in oversees). Having said that though, CRA had the lowest budget and came out at a time when movie attendance is in steep decline.…
Yah, that didn't thrill me. But then again, I didn't buy Gears 4 until recently so I doubt my opinion matters (my reason for not buying had to do with not having a co-op partner any more and disliking Gears 3 a fair amount)
Ah, the Kerrigan maneuver
The RPG thing made me groan out loud hahaha. Different strokes!
I don’t know where you get that impression. In no way was there a tone when he described the business model as “slapping.”
Fondly
I ride for the first AC but Yahtzee put it best about starting every missing in the same castle, on top of the same mountain, in the same town, that's nowhere near where you need to be.
“We’re not Akron, or something.”
Cecilia, I just wanted to pile on to the praise in this thread. This was an amazing article. I had literally been thinking about the Gygax’s widow article this weekend and how that was a highlight from the last year or so of Kotaku and that I hoped you wrote a new one soon! So thank you!
The article does mention a blizzard. I'm not from the artic circle like MN (joking, but it is colder than where I live), but I have to drive through a lot of snow and if it was bad enough, they could have been stuck halfway and decided to press on at incredibly slow speeds. So maybe not total nonsense. Especially with…
Also, when you read about Jobs (and I say this as someone who kinda thinks his status is overblown), he seemed to often have a good sense of what people wanted and, maybe more importantly, what they didn’t. Him demanding changes to things and forcing their development probably resulted in a lot more creation.
Yeah, reading this, it was basically Arneson had an innovative ideas that worked well when he ran it, but didn't have a way to actually share the experience if he wasn't there. Even when they're trying to downplay Gygax, he shines through as incredibly important.
I’m very much in the Kirby>Lee camp but this bullshit about how Lee is a hack is getting old. Lee brought a lot to the table. It’s not exactly like how Bob Kane stole credit from Bill Finger.
While you may have a different experience, in my experience, joint statements are statements both sides agree on the verbiage within. I have had to review and draft a not insignificant number of them in my career, and my clients have never signed onto a statement that is contrary to their position/beliefs.
