I was a little surprised to see her win again, but I didn’t read everything else that was on the shortlist to have an alternative. I believe it used to be that no author had won the Hugo for multiple volumes in the same series, but now it’s twice in six years as Martine joins Jemisin with this win.

I thought the setting itself was novel (hah) enough to keep me interested, it’s a fun exploration of an alternate Egypt, but I did feel the backstory of how the djinn and angels came to be in their world wasn’t explored in enough depth.

Once they’ve taken the tax write-off, declaring the film a total loss, they can never release it. Doing so would expose WB to tax liabilities and penalties, etc, and this story is way too visible for the IRS to overlook.
