I’ve known at least two people that bought WRXs and then voided the warranty in the first month of ownership by mods and tunes, so my view on the popularity of it would be a bit skewed, but I’d imagine it would be worth something to both the buyer (even $1k off is still $1k for more mods!) and the manufacturer…
Also, for cars likely to be tuned and have the warranty voided, the option to not pay for the warranty in the first place would be nice.
You see balancing like this in the CoD games - powerful, but short-term weapons are often unlocked from the start, or unlocked early on, like a rocket launcher with very little ammo, or a grenade launcher attachment.
