Usually, I'd agree with you, but in this case, it'd be weird if the DM was more "cheery" than the players considering how loud and obnoxious they act most of the time. I agree the DM shouldn't make the players feel shitty for doing the wrong thing, but it's a comedy podcast first, with players who do the wrong thing…

He's a great DM. Have you heard his D&D games with actual players at those weird cons he goes to? He does the most he can with what he has to work with, which is drunk people who don't know what they're doing, haha. And I didn't know they gave him grief.

I'm, like, 10 episodes behind so I'm still on Pathfinder, but I've always enjoyed the D&D campaign immensely, while understanding they're absolutely horrible at it. Spencer deserves better players to DM but I always think it's real funny.
