In addition to showing O’Toole’s unassailable talent, it also unfortunately shows how ill-suited Brad Pitt is to these kinds of roles. Perhaps the director is also partially to blame, but Pitt’s performance is so lackluster in comparison. His vocal delivery in particular feels far too modern. I’ve always felt that he

Great scene in a pretty terrible movie. Similar contrast, though of tone not quality, and executed in perfect self awarenes, is on Wayne’s World 2 with our man Taylor:

I don’t know if the movie is genre enough for IO9, but my favorite “one good scene” is Priam asking Achilles for Hector’s body in the 2004 Troy. Which is to say Peter O’Toole stepping in from a much better movie and giving the performance of a lifetime. Imagine if the whole film had been like this.

I am reminded of the similarly nihilistic ending to Cabin the Woods. The movie had so many hope spots and “almost” wins, that one is likely to expect the film to end either in a victory for the “bad guys” running the ceremony or even for a mostly hopeful end where the bad guys are all wiped out but the heroes are

We are now so used to summer movie mega-franchises with endless sequels that it seems strange to think of a time when a major studio would deliberately attempt to cut off a potential blockbuster sequel at its knees. I know Jaws is credited for being the first modern summer movie blockbuster, but the template for a

I love Conquest, but Escape has a special place in my heart. Just like Beneath, it has a complete tonal change near the end, going from a fish out water comedy with “grape juice plus” to “let’s shoot this baby.”

All I remember about this movie is the last scene, because I had literally fallen asleep about five minutes into the movie (I was a kid at the time) and woke up just in time to watch the scene. I remember having no idea what was going on, and not caring, either.

Can you really say she had the choice to stay silent? With her family in China? I suspect there was at least some strong suggestion from the powers that be that she better say something.

she wasn’t asked to

Isn’t the problem people blowing up shit and not the gender reveal? You didn’t do much at all to convince me that the parties (as in the original) are a problem, just the escalation — all of which could be a baby shower or announcement and have nothing to do with gender revelation.

Pretty much. They had the choice of ‘supporting’ China’s ruthless, intolerant, totalitarian regime (in whatever way that regime demanded) or not support them and be barred from filming in China, thus making filming Mulan impossible. They wanted to film Mulan, because they wanted those sweet, sweet movie $$$$ so they

I’d say the bigger sin was making Mulan a Jedi.

I don’t blame Yifei for this, at least not completely, as I’m sure it’s a complicated situation. I 100% blame Disney and other companies for catering to an evil dictatorship though. Good time as any to remind everyone that corporations are never moral, they are only profit driven. Every time they give to charity, or

Paul is also relatable because while he’s a villain for bringing the jihad and passing on the Golden Path to his son, he also becomes a victim of the very prescience that is at the center of all this. He’s a very reluctant villain, and he suffers a great deal for it. Leto II is much harder to relate to as the Tyrant,

Caprica and The Sarah Connor Chronicles. SCC is probably the second best thing ever done in the entire Terminator universe.

Probably because technically the series ended pretty much as J. Michael Stracynski intended. It wasn’t rushed to finish in the last few episodes because it didn’t get continued like most of these others.

Yeah the difference with that I think is they rushed to end S4 but still did a damn good job with the landing.. Then the strong S5 ending too. 😁

Came here to ensure B5 made the list. Amazed that it didn’t.

And then there was that show that was forced to rush to an ending, managed to be excellent while doing so and then be informed that they get another season after all, hope you haven’t used all your plotlines already, ‘kay, thanks, bye.

So dumb that they deserved that “special kind of hell” Shepherd Book referenced in Firefly.
