You’re a real piece of fucking work, aren’t you?
You’re a real piece of fucking work, aren’t you?
I’ll start this by saying that anyone is free to feel insulted by whatever they feel insulted by. But I - an Asian-American living in a third world country - really think this criticism is stretching a bit.
I actually don’t think using a real life aesthetic makes you have “a responsibility to grapple with its history.” I see the rice hat idea is being a bit more questionable, but “they didn’t insert a painful history lesson about a real life community (that had nothing to do with the story of their game)“ is... a plus?
I think a person is being inappropriate anytime they suggest that someone is lesser because of a physical feature, and say they should get painful surgery to fix the supposed deficiency. That goes for the comments here, as well as the (far more common) comments women get about their physical features.
All the people in here arguing that the game isn’t broken because they themselves can tolerate the broken things in it are very confusing to me.
Yeah. I see a lot of people justifying sending death threats to an elderly woman because the family she married into have profited from colonialism and plundering other nations.
Some further context: I just had a gander at the linked story. The tweet they controlled the comments on was one in which they announced that Camilla had joined “a video call with staff and formerly homeless residents of Emmaus Brighton...to discuss the challenges faced by the charity as a result of the coronavirus…
There’s so much to unpack when it comes to Americans deciding that other countries should overthrow their governments because we somehow know what’s best for the people of another nation? That’s just a new brand of colonialism, and it’s gross.
PLEASE include either the National Suicide Prevention Hotline or some other relevant resource when posting articles that discuss suicide or self harm. It is genuinely not that hard. It seems that Jezebel has fully committed to not including this information on recent articles addressing suicide.
Hey, cool, gay panic!
They can have all the clicks they want - I haven’t clicked on any of the advertisers here. The notion that clicks alone translate into good feeling, continued readership, or economic success is fool’s gold.
We’re all dumber now for having read this whiny entitled nonsense. You don’t like superheroes? Fine. Don’t watch them. I don’t care much for basketball. So I simply don’t watch it. But I don’t call people who like basketball idiots. Because I am not a moron. You think not liking a genre makes you superior? GTFO.…
“None of these super heroes are even real. It’s all made up garbage.”
TLDR past the second sanctimonious paragraph..
So basically, you’re too stupid to research the 1000s of other movies that come out every year so you complain about the 5 to ten superhero films a year. Got it.
Culture hasn’t been invaded by shit. They are immensely popular movies at the box office. No one walks into my office dressed up like an avenger or talks about them outside of a movie coming out. If you don’t want to hear about shit that twenty year olds talk about all day then don’t work at a blog populated by them.
First off, I suspect that this article is trying to be a little funny. I hope so. It’s not succeeding at all, but I hope this represents an attempt because the alternative is pretty sad.
Wow, look at that, yet another piece decrying the “lack of originality” in movies. FFS, I see at least one of these a week bitching about how *everything* is either a comic book movie or sequel/prequel/reboot
You are very, very wrong.
