“Why do people like her?”
“Why do people like her?”
In terms of severity, this is a much different matter than simply smiling for a client you don’t like or going on a trip you didn’t want to go on. You’re right, I’ve done all of those things. Most of it while working in retail, a job which will expose you to some truly vile people.
I use money to buy things. Can I run a bank do you think?
Although I don’t have a medical degree and am a man, I’ve decided to pursue a head OB/GYN role since I spent the most formative parts of my life in utero. You’re an inspiration to us all, Dr. Carson.
Happy Saturday Social, all! After several months away, I’m slowly coming back to the Jez community. I’d love to hear what everyone has been up to!
These are kids; telling a trusted adult is not a “wasted step”, and it also allows her some accommodation from the school, so she doesn’t have to ride the same bus with him or whatnot. Give the girl a break- she did nothing wrong. No one can ever be a victim perfectly enough to meet everyone’s standards.
Ugh- your last line. You were doing so well!
Good on the principal for doing the right thing. We’ve seen far too many similar situations result in the failure of a figure such as that to act, or to blame the victim. So that’s a plus we can take out of this.
Dorian Corey’s definition was far from nebulous. You saw her give an historical and contextually rich explanation of the difference from what started as reading (which came from the dozens) and moved on to the subtler but definitely understood shade. Additionally, she is not just “a dead drag queen.” Well known in…
I love this story. I visited my grandfather every day - we were best friends. When my photos from my doctoral ceremony arrived, my grandfather was actively dying and couldn’t speak anymore. I brought one to show him anyway. He kissed the photo, which was more than anything he could’ve said.
Holy shit! I’m being cited?!
Thank you. We will never be “normal” again, but we have come through the worst at this point. We still try to live everyday as a gift (he still has remaining aneurysm that can’t be resolved with current technology and has a 1% chance of re-rupture in any given year), but its fucking hard.
This isn’t really in response to you, but I don’t want to reply to the people who are actually saying this shit, and your comment is tangentially related:
Recovered is a big word. Mr. Penguin lived, and that was a triumph and a testament to his strength (42 years old when it happened), the city I live in, the quality of care he received at 2 hospitals, and a tremendous surgeon we refer to as Dr. Awesome. In 999 out of 1000 cases of what happened to him he would have…
A few years ago, maybe 2013 or 14, Secretary Hillary Clinton came to my work (not Wall Street, tech company) for a fireside chat and to promote her book. She talked at length about her experience as SOS, and one thing she discussed was how much “small offenses” matter to so many leaders and countries around the world,…
Speaking of Merriam-Webster, this tweet?
They inspired “my flum is oxed”, though. I thank them for that.
I’m so tired.
I love that song. Even when you’re not a party person, when you’re young you get a lot of pressure to party and be outgoing, which in itself is obnoxious. It’s sort of the introvert’s anthem of rebellion, and I can understand looking down on some of the typical outgoing behaviours when you’re pressured into…
OH MAN, ME TOO.
