It’s weird though—the guy in the video seems to know the rules well enough that I’m pretty sure he would have scanned that ticket going through the gate with the 2yo. After watching the video I find it hard to believe that he’d think the seat would stay open if he didn’t scan the ticket.

I’m not sure whether it’s clear that they scanned the original ticket when boarding or not. I’m assuming they did—the guy seems well versed enough with the rules that I don’t think he would assume that if he didn’t scan that ticket that the kid would be able to use that seat.
