also you don’t need to INVEST THE STORY WITH GRAND SIGNIFICANCE to justify running a fun little story about a kid’s predictions and what came true. Blogs are allowed to be fun.

“Bertie, did you happen to see Christabell pass through here?”
“What’s she look like?”
“A sort of tender goddess.”
“Hmm. There was one woman, looked like she’d poured herself into that dress— maybe even spilled some, what!”
“That’s her! Oh, my love for her will burn longer than the distant stars.”

It’s shocking to me how people in these comments wouldn’t know that France in particular is super duper racist.

I honestly thought that this was just common knowledge, that Europe in particular was racist in very different but still very very very awful ways towards black people in general and black women in partcular

Fantastic movie, awesome line. In my brain Wodehouse and Chandler (and thus Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) are kindred spirits.

Reminds me of one of my favorite Wodehouse lines— “he looked as if he had been poured into his clothes and had forgotten to say `When!’.”

No, “this is gratuitous” is my opinion. “narrative that only exists to thinly justify a thing within the context of the story” is objectively not a counterargument to “this is gratuitous.”

“we found a way to justify shoe-horned sexy schoolgirl outfits” is not actually a counterargument to “this is gratuitous”

...why is she a sexy school girl? in the movieverse does April make uncomfortably pedophilic-pandering pornography?

Oh wow, impressive use of the focused totality of her psychic powers!

overREACTion?!

I thought Ancient Mew was for Pokemon 2000?

I never thought I would punch the air with glee after finding out about a piece of the freaking Power Rangers Movie casting. But now I’m actually excited to see this thing!

Oh, damn. Thanks for the update.

I’m guessing it was ignored mostly because 1) one category being hit by a couple different massive fanbases isn’t terrible for the *overall* awards, and 2) there’s a snobby “tv doesn’t matter” attitude among a lot of SFF readers today, it seems. Possibly in part because there’s been no good even mildly hard sf on for

I think he’s referring to Moffat WHo as opposed to RTD Who.

I’m by no means a puppy apologist, but It was *effectively* a slate even if it wasn’t a coordinated effort. Certain groups of nerds operate almost via hivemind when it comes to tv crap, and so even in the most critically savaged seasons, Doctor Who dominated.

If the whole kerfuffle did anything, it shined a light on the *actual* problems with the Hugos. Which is pretty much confined to the TV/short category.

Ziggy and the Ties that Bind. Boy, would that be a delightful crossover!

And the japanese for friends like family...when we already say “like family” in extremely common speech?
