Agree with this take- I think it’s why he’s been very pointed about it NOT being about race, because he wants to make original horror dealing with a multitude of themes. He’s putting black people front and center, but for once (for reasons you expressed) the trauma being focused on isn’t racial.

This is super common in the endurance sports world- triathlon, cycling, running, etc. Brands have “ambassador” teams you can apply for. I’ve gotten free products (some worth thousands of dollars), race entries, discounts, etc. When you’re in these sports, which can get expensive, it’s worth it to save what you can!
