I did once, not realizing she was a young woman, probably 16-20 years old.  I drove her about 5 miles home.  Didn’t think much about it until later, but I’m sure her parents completely freaked out about accepting a ride home from some dude.  Pre-cell phone days...

You didn’t necessarily miss out on a good deal on the price of a car, but if you were going to get a loan, you may well have missed out on the factory-sponsored low interest rates, especially the 0%

I have a 2002 Mustang GT, which is slower than most minivans today, but it’s a manual, it sounds good, and the looks have held up OK over time. I’d love to give it to my now-13-year-old son in 3 years, but insurance will probably be too much because of its classification, even though it’s slow.

When I was 18 my mom went shopping for a new ‘90 Mustang, I thought I talked her into getting a 5.0. She came home with a 4-cyl with wire spoke hubcaps. I asked her why she didn’t get a 5.0 and she said it was because they weren’t available with automatic transmissions. Yes they were, mom, yes they were.  Crazy part

Agree, had to do doughnuts in reverse, and that would often trip the fuel shutoff, and you had to open the trunk to reset.
