I totally get this. For me it’s the feeling and sensation of my teeth against the texture of the skin. Gives me the creeps. I am the same as your colleague, I will eat them peeled, in baked goods, etc, but I can no longer just bite into one.

I have that weird phobia of small holes and little even things, like animal scales, etc, and looking at this photo is making me almost physically ill.
