A crucial tell: near the end of Alien, Sigourney Weaver is wearing her underwear, rather than the pajamas she’d be sporting if it was a superhero movie.
O’Bannon was incredibly bitter about Giger’s alien design, saying that, in a crucial pre-production meeting, the Swiss artist “completely ignored the beach ball [O’Bannon] had brought along as inspiration.”
The Children Called Him Big Nose.
What a gross guy.
Idols? Is that what they call themselves, or is that like a genre?
I bet you cried all through The Thing! Couldn’t blame you for that one.
It’s on the list, for sure!
I absolutely CANNOT BELIEVE that someone has WAITED UNTIL NOW to see one of MY FAVORITE MOVIES EVER MADE, the incredible mindbender that is VIDEODROME!!! What were you THINKING all these years?!?!?
Maybe at least the greatest summer in film when you’re an eleven year-old film fanatic, as I was. I saw The Thing five times that summer, and Blade Runner at least three. Of course I also made time for Poltergeist, Star Trek II, Tron, E.T., and even Rocky III.
Oh, no apologies necessary.
Ahh, I see.
Won’t argue with you there.
Sully could have put half the passengers on one wing and the other half on the other for a spirited game of volleyball.
Wes Craven’s The People Under the Stairs is sort of like what John Carpenter’s Home Alone would be. Now there’s an extremely class-conscious movie.
I was being pointlessly ironic - both Hanks and Winkler are supposed to be the very sweetest guys you could meet. I wonder what their Turner & Hooch issue was?
Is it any surprise that the two actors widely considered the biggest jerks in Hollywood wouldn’t get along with each other?
No, not directly of course. But any disconnect between the headline and the review can’t be blamed on Katie, as the writers don’t compose the headlines.
Volunteers
If Hanks puts any qualifications on his experience making The ‘burbs, it’s probably got to do with the fact that it was shot during a writer’s strike and they didn’t have a proper ending for the movie, and also with his discomfort at playing a dad for the first time in his career. Apparently he figured he’d get stuck…
