well, I'm narcissistic so I personally like twitter for its fad-iness. But I also limit who I follow, i.e., Darthvader for some periodic humor, cnnbreak for breaking headlines (I live in a bubble and never would have known Falwell died) and Obama.

I think the underlying idea is "don't be an asshat online." I respect people's right to privacy and not to put themselves "out there," but if you are helpful to people online, don't make inflammatory comments, don't rite lik a 9yrold,n00b, then there is very little that employers, et al. can hold against you.
