I love it. Thank you. Also: “You Gotta Be,” which I’m using to teach my 6th graders about adjectives next week.
Thanks, Joanna. I came across this list on Twitter; Wendy & Lisa had retweeted it, which should make your day just a bit better...
I teach middle school. One of my students, who is gay, absolutely melted down today. We were there to help him out, but: still.
Jesus Christ. What have we done?
And the people who, in vast numbers, turned to Donald Trump to shake up the establishment, who are hurting and looking for change in the way things are done, will have a chance to assess if they are better off or worse.
I’m a teacher.
It was Andrew Sullivan’s tagline back during the Obama years.
Report from Connecticut: I was twenty third in line at my polling place at 5:50 A.M. When I left at 6:10, there were nearly 100 people in line. One of the polling officials told us he’d been doing this for 36 years and had never seen a longer line when the polls opened.

I hooked mine up to my WeMo switches, so, when I walk into the house, I say, “Alexa, turn on the lights,” and the lights turn on, and in my head, I go, Oooooooooooooo.
I played the new Timberlake song, “Don’t Stop the Feeling,” at last Friday’s middle school dance, and I was surprised by two things:
I’ve taught Romeo & Juliet for years, and I enjoy the Luhrmann adaptation, as do my students. It’s just so beautifully overdone and overwrought.
Erick Erickson replied to one of my tweets a few weeks ago. I consider this terrifying.
If you haven’t yet watched Weiner, the documentary about Anthony Weiner’s run for mayor of NYC, please do so ASAP. (It’s available on Showtime On Demand, so hit up your elderly grandparents—or someone else with actual cable—and get on that shit.) I watched it this weekend and was mesmerized.
I have some ETP stock in my portfolio. I called my broker yesterday to get rid of it. I’m not Jill Steining this one—it’s too damn important.
