Actually, there isn’t a whole lot that’s different about middle school dances now than when I was in middle school (1990-1992). Everyone still dances with outstretched arms; everyone still screams when I play “That Song” (it’s One Direction now; it was M.C. Hammer or “The Humpty Dance” back in the day); kids still run

They still love the directed dances—“Crank That,” “Watch Me Whip/Nae Nae,” and particularly “The Cha-Cha Slide”—as much now as they did back then.

I’ve taught middle school for fifteen years, and I was the DJ at my twenty-eighth (or twenty-ninth?) middle school dance last night.

I slip it in whenever and wherever I can, usually during the dance competition. “End of the Road”is my go-to slow song at the end.

I’ve been a middle school teacher for fifteen years.

I’m currently DJing a middle school dance. Ask me anything.

I haven’t had cable since 2010, so I haven’t watched one of these Republican debates yet, but DAMN, this is fun.

Rubio reminds me of Lady Elaine Fairchilde from Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.

Does Trump know anything about grammatical structure? His sentences sound like they were translated from English into Latin and then back into English again.

Goddamn, Ted Cruz is a fucking troll.

Not to be pedantic, but “Oak Tree” is from Day’s solo album, Color of Success, which didn’t feature Prince as either a musician or a writer. This is not to say, however, that Prince’s influence wasn’t all over the song—just that he himself wasn’t.

Now playing

Morris Day is the guy who should be suing everybody. It seems like every other song my middle school students tell me they love sounds like an “Oak Tree” rip-off.

I don’t think it’s that James Wong and Glen Morgan, for example, don’t know what they’re doing. It’s that they tried to cram an 18-episode series into six episodes. My feeling was that they tried to throw everything—including the kitchen sink, a “Monster-of-the-Week,” Scully’s kid, and a UFO—at the ceiling without

I’ve known Meryl for over 25 years. She is one of the most generous, gracious human beings I’ve ever met, full stop. This particular case of faux outrage really pissed me off.

She is indeed dead. I have a friend who is close with the family, and he just posted confirmation.

The poor kid had quite the teeth back in the day.

Mosquito-borne virus? Don’t you mean...MONSANTO-BORNE VIRUS?!!!!!?!??!??!?!?!

Cognitive behavioral therapy has helped me a lot. Like, a lot.

I play video games, I love board games, and I want to get back into car racing.
