“How do we change the mindset of such voters?

He was the Trump of Kentucky. People never thought he’d win in a million years, so most Dems stayed home, thinking Conway had it in the bag. PLEASE DON’T DO THIS EVER. *weeps*

“How on Earth did Bevin happen?”

19% voter turnout.

People here in Texas keep complaining about the asshats who get elected, but only about a third of eligible voters turned out for the election in 2014. I do what I can to encourage folks to vote, but so many just don’t take the time.

People saw Bevin as a joke, and the Dem candidate was projected to win. So only people who were dumb enough to not see Bevin as a joke showed up to vote - either for or against him. Unfortunately, most of the voters (between 1/4 and 1/3 of the voters in th state) were for Bevin.

There was a historically low turnout, and the Democratic candidate wasn't likable. The oddest thing to me is that people went to vote for Alison, and didn't vote for anyone else.

This is why Democrats need to show up to non-presidential elections. I voted absentee from abroad trying to stop this mess but I know so many people who just didn’t care enough to stop by the polls (I know people have obstacles but these were people with means and ability). Then they act outraged that this idiot is

Bernie voted for the bill, has no responsibility for that vote. Hillary did not vote for the bill, supported her husband’s policies as first lady, will never ever ever shake her support for the bill.

100% endorsed. I’m a Sanders supporter, but this is the correct answer. Electing Obama didn’t End Racism or anything like that, but it is proof that getting involved in the system can work. You can get elected and you can make a difference once you do.

I’m black and voting for Hillary. #SorrynotSorry. I don’t find this condescending at all. Why don’t you get in government IS the right answer. I’m so tired of all these whiny people running around complaining all the politicians are in someone’s pocket or are “UNAUTHENTIC” . GO BE A POLITICIAN Then. That’s an

Yes, she is human.

makes sense to me

That’s the other HUGE problem. Sanders isn’t motivating the demographic to go out and vote. Turnout is low, especially so when compared to the 2008 election. Even if Sanders is the nominee his supporters absolutely will not show up off-years.

OK, but if I vote for him if he has to promise to throw a trashcan through the window of a local pizzeria where lobbyists congregate.

Fucking this. Am I really supposed to bow down in subservience to the wishes of those people who are so fucking ignorant that they don’t realize that the MIDTERM and other non-presidential elections matter just as much, possibly more, than who sits in the White House? To those people who are so uninterested in coming

Are you calling me a liar? Do you also find Hillary to be a liar, even though you have no proof?

YES. When my Bernie supporter friends try to convince me to vote for Bernie (I’m a staunch Hillary supporter) I ask them if they voted in the midterms. If not? Conversation over.

But Bernie, bro, a lot of your followers are explicitly saying just that and losing their shit anytime someone attempts to even mention the word Hillary let alone discuss the issues at hand. Also, you might want to mention that all non uterus having folks have had a stranglehold on this whole process for eternity, so

Eh I feel ya and I call myself feminist still. Like ideally I’d like to see Bernie get the nod but the people I interact with who are rabidly “feeling the Bern” kind of turn me off. Like, you can talk about legitimate criticisms of a candidate you don't like without insulting her. I've had a few go so far as to say
