Sorry, but no. Any article that praise’s Jessica Mendoza is a joke. She has been horrible. She’s awkward and just doesn’t it in. It really has nothing to do with her gender either. She’s just brutal. I literally have to watch Sunday Night Baseball on mute cause of her.

Yeah, I was very confused. There’s a HUGE difference between “we will send in the state guard to make sure no blacks enter this school” and “we have a shitty school that only poor black people go to, and a nice school in a nice area where the good white people live”

Was it Tina Fey who said “how are these women supposed to resist these boys and the smell of chewing gum and axe body spray mixed with day old sweat?”

Brooklyn = part of NYC as of the nineteenth century. Come on.

And so many stories like this end up being revealed to be false, if/when something truly bad happens, nobody’s going to believe it, no matter the actual evidence. People have gotta stop crying wolf re: homophobia in/from the service industry.

Not invalidating your experiences whatsoever, but left out of the article is the fact that the so-called “white” school was racially mixed: about evenly divided between black and white students.

Considering that’s about his only path to the nomination, he would probably thank them in his acceptance speech.

Bobby, I agree with everything you said regarding the destructive nature of Brown’s actions towards a community that faces real challenges on a daily basis, but can we also talk about what kind of weirdo orders a single layer cake?

That was poorly explained, because the Cleveland High School is in fact integrated (50/50). The problem was that the East High School was all black and did not receive the same maintenance and upkeep.

East Side High School (the 99% Black school) out-performs Cleveland High School (approximately 50% Black/50% White) by a large margin on standardized tests according to Great Schools, despite the fact that East Side High has a 95% participation in the free/reduced lunch program compared to 62% of Cleveland High

So, I moved from Detroit to the Bay Area (not Oakland or Hayward) when I was 14. I didn’t realize how much comfort there was in living in an all black space compared to living in a space with very, very few black people. When you live amongst majority black people then you are just seen for you and it is a struggle to

Exactly. NYC has lots and lots of different races, cultures etc, and if you’re on the train or something yes, everything is very integrated. But neighborhoods are still hugely segregated. Meanwhile NYers look down their noses at the south..

Brooklyn. Where the fuck do you live?

I was raised in the industrial Midwest, and I have no love for the South, but this isn’t a southern problem. Go to Boston, Chicago, or Detroit, and you’re at least as likely to find segregated schools than in Birmingham, Little Rock, or Macon.

This! I live in NYC, one of the most segregated cities I’ve ever seen.

I don’t know where you got an anti-South message.

This is a bit misleading. Cleveland High IS racially integrated, about 60/40. East side is 99%black. The real segregation is along income lines.

Right? I’m soooo tired of the “wtf the South is so backwards” crap. Last I checked, racists live pretty much everywhere, not just here.

I know the purpose of the article is to tsk tsk the south, which ok we should. But other states up north encourage segregation as well, with the whole charter school private school business. It’s something that is happening all over the country.

It’s a pretty big jump from “some Bernie supporters are sexist bros” to “there are literally no feminist/female Bernie supporters.” Of course the latter is not true, but the campaign has had some undeniable gender issues and I don’t see the point in ignoring that.
