Mike Nelson has called the original Road House the perfect intentionally so bad its good movie. Its clear no one making it was taking it seriously and everyone was having a blast. It shows on screen. Its not high art but as far as low art goes there is nothing better

“A little”??? I’m sure Liman thinks all of his movies are great films, but if you demand a theatrical release then FFS get it in the contract! Written, on paper, with signatures and proscribed monetary damages for breach!  What is he, 12?

and Liman was told if he made a great film, a theatrical release wasn’t out of the question.

Headline: Doug Liman Boycotts “Road House” Premiere Because of Streaming

If the category was Best Cultural Moment, that’d make sense, but I still don’t understand why Academy voters shouldn’t pick whatever movie they thought was best, even if it was a lesser-seen film. Movies as a whole are losing their cultural relevance; why try to fool people?

Agreed that it’s Oppenheimer’s to lose—given how it ran away with the nominations, in general—and agreed that Poor Things has the best chance of playing spoiler, as it should be. A rare insightful 1-2 punch from the current AVC writing staff.

This doesn’t make much sense. The point of the movie is that Ken was being overlooked.

Margot Robbie didn’t get snubbed, I don’t think. She was perfectly good and did exactly what the role required, but it was hardly groundbreaking stuff. It’s exactly what you would expect from an A-list actor in a studio film.

There is literally no possible way someone would still be alive in that situation. If your extremities have frozen so solid your arm can be snapped in two as easily as a piece of celery, you are dead, end of story.

Well, yeah, drunk people making an ass out of themselves can be funny.

Pay attention better then?

Hey-O!

Hank Sr was banned in 1952 forever for missing a show. Hank Jr also got banned in the 80's for being rowdy backstage and being an asshole to everyone.

Yeah, Hank Williams got kicked out for drunkenness, and was still banned when he died, and it’s basically a shrine to him now.

Dumb people like you only have the ability to think in these terms.

I don’t see anything cruel. “Drunk enough to get banned from the Opry” is a pretty broad group of performers. I think it’s fine to have a laugh and hope she gets her shit together.

And The Year in Swag, Box of Paperbacks Book Club, The Tolerability Index, Gateways to Geekery . . .

I’m shocked that the daughter of Rob Schneider has such poor coping skills

This is really, really funny.

i got the impression he was saying ‘don’t lump me in with those people who say they aren’t going because they’re woke, i’m not going because i think they look dumb
