I should follow-up on that and by saying you should always consult your physician, but in most cases none would tell you it's "ok" professionally because of liability, and like the article states you never know how the medicine may react to any other medication you are on.

I have multiple family members in the medical field and they all have mentioned this before. While medicine does become less potent over time, it's still okay to use, it's just less effective.
