The replicator and the transporter basically are the same technnology.they both disassemble at the molecular level then reassemble.So,ok,they'd need to be strictly controlled and have massive safeguards built in but what gets me here is how far advanced we would have to be to be able to create such a technology.the

Connie Willis' Oxford Time Travel books would make for an amazing tv series.Movies would work but would require a huge truncating of these stories.As a series you could really flesh out each book in ten episodes or so per book.

I think we need to stop applying human attributes to alien species.I know if I were an alein species who had discovered among other things a practical way to travel the vast distances of space I wouldn't really be needing anything like a massive pool of slave labor.I also doubt I'd be that interested in the resources

The problem with articles like this is that they are unavoidably seen through a filter of the limitations of knowledge,ability and technology of that moment in time.5 seconds from now,or a day,a year,a century some sort of new technology or new way of thinking,some scientific breakthrough could change everything.

I'd buy that for a dollar.
