When this happens the sugar degradation byproducts are stuck on the blood stream (mainly sorbitol, a sugar byproduct that is in fact an alcohol). An added note. The reason because you shouldn't drink while under antibiotics is not because they won't work, it's because of the disulfiram like effect.
