THANK YOU.
THANK YOU.
OMG WHAT ARE PEOPLE NOT GETTING ABOUT THIS.
Point out where I was bullying or inciting inferiority by pointing out to people that in their quest to include some children, they are excluding others.
Could of fooled me.
It was an Anchorman reference, you know, since we're comparing careers and all now.
Well, considering the fact that culture is proven and measured in places like psychology and sociology classes...
Yes, that's called taking your children and telling them not to bully others.
Teach all or teach none.
But I am an environmental biologist!
Aww, it thinks it's smart.
Yawn.
Hi there. Atheist and future parent here — religion has no place in my child's classroom. It's a HORRIBLE idea. Not only are philosophies tied to English and history taught in those classes, but if you can't teach the more than 5,000 religions practiced in the world, then at least one child will get singled out.
Comsidering the fact that I am a Black woman who was enrolled in a white school and yet learned about the Moors, the main African kingdoms up until approximately the time of Portuguese/Dutch invasion, the more disgusting parts of American chattel slavery (such as the killing of enslaved children by their own parents…
Teach all or teach none.
Okay, let me say this slowly and clearly.
Willful ignorance is believing a religious studies class is going to stop children from bullying others based on their religion instead of being a monumental waste of time and borderline illegal in American public schools (considering the fact that you can't cover every single religion practiced in the world).
I don't remember my teachers teaching me Bible verses so I could understand Shakespearean references to them, or references in the Canterbury Tales and I understood the texts just fine, as did my classmates.
And that stops little, Wiccan children from being bullied because they're "evil", how? And that stops little, Hellenic reconstructionist kids from being bullied because their religion "dumb", how? And that stops little, LaVeyan Satanist children from being bullied because they're "Satan worshippers", how? And that…
It's not about lack of compassion, it's about fairness and legality.
You're also likely to encounter an atheist. So no. Try again.
