Yeah but those examples were outside of scifi, as this isn't really a scifi problem so much as a movie/story problem. I question the motivation of acting as if this is just scifi as if scifi fans are worse than other fans (a common;y used trope itself).

Nygma's transformation wasn't treated as a joke. Just because it's different doesn't mean it was "mishandled" he was someone who in many storylines has had to figure out how to stand on his own and is usually looking for an equal to spar with.
