Is it real? Because it doesn't look real. The bends, creasing, and finishing in the edges scream plastic.

I mean it looks cheap and plasticy.
This was the first time I remember seeing it. Since then I have seen it a lot. Usually by the end of the trip the tape is looking pretty sad though, so I don't know about the true protection factor.
I think this is pretty common for people on long trips. My friends just drove five hours to a car show with a whole caravan of cars with the same tape treatment.
