I'm all for this kid being protected from the "whims" of his father. By the sound of it, I doubt Pinault would even acknowledge the kid, much less give him any money at all if it was up to him. I've said repeatedly that he should pay to support the child, and should support him very comfortably. But we're talking

The kid is like 5. He's known about the child all along, his feelings towards him are pretty well established at this point. I'm not assuming anything. He wanted her to get an abortion, she proceeded with the pregnancy, and he basically wrote off having anything to do with the kid. Is it possible he changes his mind

Of course reasonable means different things to a billionaire and myself in terms of what we can afford. But the baseline cost for raising a kid is relatively stable. Food, shelter, security. I've got no problem with Pinault being responsible for these costs, and frankly I think he should pony up for a very comfortable

Why ISN'T he entitled to $45,000 per month?

It's NOT about YOU.

You and I have a different opinion of punished. Nobody is suggesting that this kid should be destitute. My gripe isn't that the guy needs to pay child support, he should absolutely support the kid. And given his wealth it's completely reasonable that he should provide his son with a very comfortable life. But why

I'm not defending that mindset and I'm extremely liberal. I made it very clear that I don't approve of a father treating his son like shit, you can't condone something like that. But if the kid lived with him, there would be nothing preventing the dad from treating his daughter one way and his son another. It's not

+1

Although I've softened on my original stance on this issue, I still maintain that the courts shouldn't be in the business of forcing a parent to treat his kids equally. If both his kids lived with him, and he wanted to lavish wealth on his daughter but treat his son like shit, he would have every right to do that. It

Yeah, I've thought the same about the proposed security costs. It sounds harsh, but if the guy has pretty clearly indicated that he didn't want the kid and has no interest in the kid, that removes any plausible motivation for a kidnapper to take him and demand some exorbitant ransom.

I raised that exact point earlier this week in a couple threads about this issue, and recieved a lot of feedback indicating that US law requires the father to pay a percentage of his income in child support (I believe 14% or thereabouts). He apparently puts a large amount of money into a trust for his daughter, and

Then again, I don't give a fuck anymore. Do w/e you want Lucas.

I didn't particulary like DA2, which I thought I made pretty clear, but I didn't hate it either. Contrary to what you apparently think, I actually believe there's room for gray area. Some games ARE just good, not great, and that's ok because often it's just a reflection of what appeals to one specific person. There

Fun fact: the more people games appeal to the more money publishers make. Saying "not every game needs to appeal to everyone" runs antithetical to what the people who control the industry are interested in.

Truth. And honestly, Dragon Age II wasn't THAT bad. It was disappointing compared to the first one, but I'm honest enough with myself to admit that the first one was catering to a very specific type of gamer, and I can't blame them for wanting to go more action-oriented and mainstream. There were plenty of inoffensive

I was going to say something similar to this, then remembered that this is the internet, where there is no human decency.

I appreciate it. I'm sure there were some salient points in my ravings, but mostly related to 46k being more than anyone NEEDS to raise a kid. But I think I lost sight of the forest for the trees. That is a tiny percentage of this guy's total wealth, and since he's obviously willing to lavish riches on his other child

Honestly, I'm going to have to step back and reassess my thoughts on this whole thing. It's rare that I'm this out of sync with most of the commentors on Jezebel, and when there's been literally zero people that agreed with me I'll take that as a sign that I'm probably completely off base. There have been some

I have no idea what you're talking about. I've been engaged in this discussion on Jezebel all day. What other Gawker site was I shot down all over? Unless this was cross posted somewhere.
