I have a home server with 32 GB in it. I game from it, but even Skyrim with 100+ mods running doesn't get much above 2 GB (if you're being insane with mods, of course you can hit the 3.1 GB crash limit). I have 8 GB assigned to a RAMdisk for use with transcoding media through Plex. It eliminates a problem that I

Has anyone tried to price match Micro Center's i7-4770k deal at NCIX.com? The cart will let you price match it to $199.99, but then it gets submitted for them to review. I'm guessing they won't let you, but it's worth a shot.

I had to write a program for storing some data and it required ultra-fast query execution. So I made a RAMdisk, threw XAMPP on there and it's incredible. Hundreds of thousands of queries are handled in a fraction of the time it takes a spinning rust HDD. We then offload the data periodically to an actual HDD and

I loved Winamp and have used it since its inception. I'm really sad right now, but if you'll excuse me, I have a llama's ass that I'm going to continue feverishly whipping. :'(

I saw a 4K 46" TV on display in Fry's and it's absolutely stunning. There's literally no way to convey how amazing these things look unless you see them in person.

I would definitely not recommend the Seagate Backup Plus, unless you don't care about the speed at which it operates. Reading and writing files on the Backup Plus is much, much slower than the Seagate Expansion model and the Expansion is typically $99 - $110 on either Newegg or Amazon.

Awesome desk! I really want to build a custom one, but I have 11 thumbs and no working knowledge of engineering. I think I'd end up building a really awful desk, but in my head it sounds cool.

I've re-ran the cables in my home server build 3 times now and am still not satisfied. :/

Very true. I used the "pea" method on my last build, but I found out the first time I did it that it was too much. Instead of a full-sized pea, it should be slightly less than a pea, which you illustrated pretty well in your video.

But.... but... metal! \m/

This video from Tek Syndicate is the best video I've found for applying thermal paste. He shows all the known methods and why you shouldn't use most of them and he uses clear plastic so you can see exactly how they spread.

I've never had a chance to benchmark the GoFlex. I was referring to the Backup Plus model which after further digging, has a 5900 RPM drive in it as opposed to a 7200 Barracuda in the Expansion model. There's a sizable gap in transfer speed performance between those two. But again, not sure how either compares to a

We had TV's in our high school classrooms and I was a bit of a troublemaker back then. I took my parents DirecTV remote that had universal capabilities and programmed it to the TV's. I'd reach into my bag and randomly turn the TV on and off throughout class. Drove the teachers insane :)

The Seagate drive isn't much better either. I had Seagate try to replace my 3TB Expansion model drive with a Backup Plus. I used CrystalDiskMark to check both drives while I had them and the Backup Plus performs much, much worse than the Expansion model.

I recently bought the Blue Yeti Pro version on Woot! when it was $99 refurbished. The mic came and everything was peachy for 2 days, then all of the sudden when I'd record, the right channel was crackly but audible and the left channel was nothing but a high-pitched whine. Just sent it back to Blue the other day and

Don't think that buying a Prius will exempt you from your behavior, I don't care how many ads they show with it shitting rainbows in a magical forest.

Yeah the prohibitively expensive part is kind of killing me right now. I have the build list all spec'ed out and it's just sitting there :/

It sounds like Chromecast will work with Plex and Amazon as long as you use Tabcasting, which although not optimal will still work.

For the people who are confused - the author is saying that a non-Prime member now has to spend $35 to get the Super Saver Shipping deal that they used to get at $25. This changes nothing for existing Prime members. He's saying, "hey you should consider signing up for Prime now because this shit's cray..." :)
