I decided to read it not as Claire being a distant mother, so much as Brianna being a 20-year-old and working through some shit and deciding “my mom has always been distant” when in fact it’s more like, she’s been able to tell for a while now that there’s a deep sadness in her mom that surfaces sometimes and it freaks

“UUUGHHHHHH BRIANNA SHUT UP.”

I feel like Frank is getting short shrift. He deserves some screen time to show the differences between himself and his terrible ancestor. He was a nice guy and a good father. How do we know? Because his daughter said so. C’mon! Menzies is a good actor, right? Let’s see his range.

Was there not a woman with the ability to act available to play Brianna? Really took me out of what was otherwise As beautiful and chilling episode .

I’m not caught up on the show, but as someone who read the whole series, I’m relieved to finally be able to say that Brianna is THE WORST, period. I could barely finish the books that had her as a major character. Love Claire, love Jamie, love their chemistry (and what i’ve seen on the show is GREAT), but I cannot

Except that he’s not laying anything on.. that’s his legit accent. :o) If anything, he lightens it for American viewers.

Somebody I read somewhere said that Bree started out in history and then switched to engineering, but I haven’t looked back at the books to confirm that for myself. I did say WTF history? to myself.

Yeah, this was me watching that yesterday.

100% agreed on Brianna. I haven’t made it through the books yet—sort of stuck on book 6 and put it aside for a while. I hoped she’d get better.

Yes, totally! I echo that sentiment. WTF?! I don’t get it: what are they saving it for? Or did Tobias Menzies’ contract run out because GOT hired him?

My Wife has been watching this while I was doing other work around the house.

Harvard didn’t admit women until the late ‘70's, and then only as an extension of Radcliffe, which they absorbed.

It takes wee Bree a couple more books to lose all the huffiness, so I think we’re gonna have to suffer through some more eye-rolling.

As a book reader of the Outlander series for 14 years (I only enjoyed the first three books, I must be a masochist because I hated reading the later books but I am too invested in these characters to give up.), let me just tell you that you should get used to yelling “UUUGHHHHHH BRIANNA SHUT UP.” She is just such a

I hate Bree in the books (I can make paper and pipes better than you can!). But I found her bad in this episode because the actress was so bad it was jarring. Before I could digest Dougal’s awesome death scene, there she was with her weird monotone accent.

When they cut to the credits, my boyfriend goes, “Are you fucking kidding me? I’ve been waiting all season to see Black Jack Randall die.” (he can be a little vindictive.) (but he also wiped my tears from my cheeks)

UGH this is terrible, this show is terrible, Brianna is terrible, in the books she’s not a history major she’s a goddamn ENGINEERING student at MIT which becomes incredibly important in the later books, and she’s supposed to be strikingly tall, and she and Claire are very close, and I hate this show. There.

I hate this show because it makes me feel my feelings and at one point I ugly sobbed/screamed “SHUT UP BREE, YOU DON’T KNOW SHIT!”

Their chemistry is truly amazing. And I was so excited to see Geillis, though I guess we won’t get any scenes with her and Claire next season. (I say this as a non-book reader, I seriously have no idea.)

I guess you didn’t explore the north shore? THAT shit was scary....at least the road to Hana wasn’t a single, unpaved lane.
