This is fascinating, because for the longest time I wasn’t sure if this phenomenon was just a thing with Asian Americans in the SF Bay Area or if it was the same for Asian Americans across the country during that era.

I think it’s very telling that the Discovery series has made ZERO mention of the Klingons since they traveled to the future. The fact that the writers are leaving the ultimate development of the Klingons open indicates that they may be considering Michael Dorn’s ideas.

For me, the duels in ESB and ROTJ were the best because in ESB there was a visceral, kinetic quality to the fight. You could really feel the power of Vader’s swings. And in ROTJ when Luke is furiously hammering away at Vader before cutting off his arm you could feel the desperate energy of his swings.

Pretty much. Zhang Zi Yi was the only main actor who natively spoke Mandarin.  Even for a non-native speaker, you can hear the difference.

As someone who IS Chinese, the joke is......tiresome.  Seriously eye-rolling tiresome and very similar to the stupid racist shit Asian Americans put up with every day.
