The rear gas tank being the trunk floor is a thing too. They have a weld in plate that goes behind the rear seat that keeps the flames of a fire after being rear ended from getting to the passenger compartment.

Smaller more fuel efficient cars and Electric cars should pay a non use tax every year, because they avoid paying infrastructure taxes by not using as much fuel.

We’ve had gas taxes for years. The infrastructure is still shit. Because the powers that be keep using the money for infrastructure on other pet projects like bike lanes, walking paths, and make traffic worse to force people into public transportation.
