Just make sure you don't drink it freezing cold at the end of a long night of drinking (without food).

I don't think anyone here cares about the distinction, but you are correct.

Even if he did join them again, they're all old men. It would be like an oldies cover band except they wouldn't technically be covers. But they'd still be pretty bad, or more accurately, pointless. As much as I enjoyed the Who's "last" tour in 1982 and 1989 (I was incredibly young for the first one), it not like I

And yes, the less Phil Collins sings, the better place the world is. Unfortunately, he's currently lost the ability to play the drums.

Yeah that's just a terrible comparison. Its sort of like saying, if you like Bryan Adams, you should really check out Throbbing Gristle.

I assume you mean early Pere Ubu, not the bell is a cup retread. Which is a fair comparison (similarly room clearing). But I just know a lot of people who read about this album, and how it was elaborately orchestrated and put together etc…. Then they buy it (steal) don't like it and write him off altogether. But

This should be enough to get people into Beefheart:

Yes. And Gravity's Rainbow is frequently called a work of genius (it is) but most of the people calling it that haven't actually finished it.

Yeah I remember reading that in an interview and thinking that Matt Groening was right about everything. That's an incredibly accurate description.

Yeah but the only people who claim those albums are genius start to finish are other musicians who've made similarly challenging material. Telling someone to start with Metal Machine music to get to know Lou Reed would be a pretty big mistake. Van Dyke Parks…., well, that's a bit tougher

It depends on which period of Tom Waits? His early 80s reinvention sounds like a slightly more melodic version of Beefheart (swordfishtrombones and rain dogs). I'd start with Safe as Milk. Most of its great but Abba Zabba & Electricity are sublime.

There is some live footage out there on the intertube of them playing live on a beach in france that shows them as much than a standard garage band. Its from around this time period.

If you are going to unwisely start with TMR, keep in mind that you sort of need to listed to it about 20 times (seriously) for it to sort itself in your head. Until that point, most of it sounds like someone accidentally released all the bits left on the cutting room floor. And there isn't enough weed in the world

There are a lot of other bands from the Canterbury scene that are a lot closer to early Genesis (and a lot more fun lyrically). Gong, Soft Machine, Caravan, etc… If you must, I'd start there.

There is literally nothing that early Genesis and Captain Beefheart have in common. May be a lack of casual fans but seriously, that's the worst comparison I've seen in a while. Both are great…..er… have their merits, but they're 100% unlike.

Maybe. But even if there are others, you're wrong.

No I'm saying that she's going to be the drunken star of a Paul Mason Chablis ad between narrating gigs for the Transformers movies.

I don't really know but that's doubtful. It seems like, with a quick google search, that WW2 ended in 1945. Since he was born in 1924….

No that wouldn't be until a few years later.

Well if it makes you feel better, if she was Orson Wells she would already have directed Citizen Kane and would currently be hard at work on the Magnificent Ambersons.
