Look at corvette forum, most of these corvette tax guys want stupid money because they dont need to sell, if you find someone who needs bring him some printouts with similar cars for sale on the corvette forum. For example a high milage (120-150k) c5 are dipping bellow 10 grand!

96 bring premium dough since its the last year, for 10grand you can get a higher miles c5. With that being said 4.5g’s will get you a decent 80ties c4 with no major issues beyond maybe water based pain flaking.

Its good that you mentioned it, another option that would work even better is the northstar, gm still sells them brand new for rwd aplications for anout 4k (what a bargain!) and they rev to 9 grand with a spring swap and rev limiter out, used heavily in sand rails and other aplications due to factory forged internals…
