Folks. Folks, please.
Folks. Folks, please.
Um, not for nothing, but his posh upbringing is directly tied to that slave-owning past. To suggest otherwise is disingenuous.
His family owned half of Trinidad for a very long time.
thank you for this post. I am so over him and his Jezzy worshippers and "excusers." Fuck him and fuck them all. Moving right on!
Look I don't have the luxury to surround myself with people who are ignorant. I have to deal with enough micro and macro aggression in my life. I choose the little friend I have wisely.
He's rich. His family's rich. Much of the present-day wealth of his present-day family is owed to the land and labor stolen by his ancestors. Wealth that the victims of his ancestors' actions were unable to accrue for themselves and their present-day descendants. That's not a guilt trip, it's a fact.
If you say so. Funny how every-time he opens his mouth about black people, slavery, privilege he backs up my argument with his racism.
His gran father is. Nice try.
As Maya Angelou once say, when someone show you who he is the first time believe him.
Do they still profit from the wealth their granfather made out of slavery? Yes, so my point stand. Bye.
Over-analyzing it in what way? I agree he said something ignorant and foolish. I agree he apologized. I hope he learns from it too, BUT I also think that if you're going to wade into a conversation about race and jobs and the media (all of which are very important subjects right now) then you should have some…
DID I SAY THAT? No, it was in response to a comment about awareness of using the term "coloured". Given the flack he has had recently about his ancestry, I would have thought he would have been more cautious about the terminology he used. Save your outrage for something else.
I think divvying up his fortunes to the descendants of the actual slaves his family used to own would be better but that's just me. *shrug*
There has been so much backlash in UK press for him using that term, if it was not a big deal we not have a anti-racism UK charity releasing a statement about it.
His family made their fortune as slaves owner, I'm not surprised by his language. A cat don't give birth to a dog.
Actually, it has the EXACT SAME connotation. The only Brits who use it are racist country folk.
Bullshit the term coloured does have the same connotation over here, just because your step-father used a racist term does not mean it not offensive.
Yeah how dare people get mad that the son of a slave owner is a racist out of touch piece of shit.
I heard that he once said that doing the film 12 Years A Slave was his way of giving "reparations" to the slaves his ancestors owned? I don't know how true that is but if he did say that...*major side eye*
This is exactly why I came here and posted pictures. No one except people IN the Black community, really gets the hair discrimination. Everyone is now pretending "Oh we accept Black people's natural hair, look at (insert bi-racial/multi ethnic ringlet having actress in here)" .
