I super hate that guy—didn't realize it was because of the dreads, but it might be.

People are getting really unnecessarily bent out of shape about this. I appear to have found a sore spot for most people. You all seem to be missing the point. I guess I just didn't articulate myself properly.
Uh. Times change. And whats normal and healthy in one country or culture may not be normal or healthy in another.
Yeah. Thats exactly what Im talking about. I'm noy saying that EVERY adult that lives with their parents is like that. But I think that in modern American culture, generally speaking, that person tends to be a little... weird. Emotionally immature, shall we say.
To each their own.
How did Beyonce not create her own success? Bitch has been hustling since she was in the single digits! Don't talk like she's just selling T and A, because she isn't.
I'm pretty sure that Elvis stole most of his early songs from Black people. Who cares if Beyonce doesn't write her own music. She knows how to pick the best people.
Are you fucking kidding me? Elvis's shtick wasn't even his own. Google James Brown. Frank Sinatra was a pretty looking crooner. Plenty of that before and now too.
Frank Sinatra never wrote a song, neither did Elvis...pop are not rock stars.
I'm in the camp that says his apology seems really sincere, and good on him. However, there is a reason we say people offered an apology — because no one has to accept it. While most people here hate racism, we don't all have an equal stake in this.
I feel like I'm about to break some GT rules here. Globalbeet made a comment about how she sees the world as a Black woman, and Norwoodismyhero is trying to police her emotions, MRA style. Most of the time it's best for allies to shut the hell up and listen. Norwoodismyhero could engage in a much better way.
As I have just recently given up trying to explain to my mother in law, an apology doesn't restore the situation to rightness. While an authentic, genuine apology (which this certainly is) goes a long way to at least demonstrate that a person is aware of what they said/did that was unacceptable, it doesn't necessarily…
Umm ok. I had no idea I was being over the top. Here I thought it's completely reasonable to not forgive someone for racist nonsense. I'll try to remember that the next time someone makes a racist joke, apologizes, but I choose to not associate with that person (or in this case not buy any of his books). Christ…
You are being over the top about this. This guy is really doing the bare min of damage control. This is something he chose to say in front of a huge crowd of people and on camera. Who knows what he is like in private. He is only giving $100,000 and promises to give out another $100,000 if other people will give up…
To be fair, that's not so much the Jezebel commentariat as society at large... And it's not so much "find it in your hearts to forgive them" as "Stop being so goddamn uppity, black people! When a white person offers you an apology, you accept it and do everything you can to make that poor white person feel better!"
Right? This dude is writing entire paragraphs lamenting the fact I'm not forgiving some old white dude for making a racist joke. This is textbook #whitefeminism
Since when is forgiveness mandatory? The apology was offered. Global Beet is well within his rights not to accept it.
"And when a white person apologizes for racism, you blacks are supposed to find it in your hearts to forgive them!"
*rolls eyes*
White people are so insecure. Anytime a non-white person accomplishes something and is the center of attention, white people get so bent out of shape. They need their supposed supremacy noted and nurtured at all times.
