I don't think that's an issue of not understanding the definition of feminism, though. I think they're making a critique of feminism, ala Animal Farm: oh, sure, feminists say they're about equality, but they aren't.

I see that willfully misconstruing what women who don't consider themselves feminists is not a trend that Jezebel is interested in dropping now that feminism is "in". She didn't state her reasons for not calling herself a feminist, or say anything about gender equality. She did take the opportunity to change the topic

Please, feminism gave Andrea Dworkin a pass to rattle on. Gloria Steinem, Catherine McKinnon and all those loud "leaders" of the movement do not help recruit men. Then let's not forget about such great PR debacles as this woman:

I think it's really the words "you're welcome" that make it obnoxious. Telling someone they should be thankful for feminist gains is totally fair, but the suggestion that Hillary/Jezebel/all current feminists get to claim credit for those advances is just too self-congratulatory. I know that's not the point being

Not in a snotty way, but — how old are you? Because I remember the entirety of the 80s and 90s being taken up with hand-wringing about why The Young People weren't embracing the label of feminism. Heck, when Lilith Fair was happening, Sarah McLachlan was all over the place explaining that this wasn't a *feminist*

Really? I thought it was obnoxious and exemplifies the up-its-own-ass qualities of feminism that drive people away.

You hate her because she is an obnoxious white woman. So do I.

Why do we only ask female pop stars if they are feminists (and then wring our hands when they do not answer how we want them to)? I do not recall anyone asking Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, or a Drake if they are feminists...

I don't come here for either but sometimes the laziness of the articles here is just funny

I see your point but I still disagree. The narration was pretty patronizing, and it's cool that she asked him some engaging questions, but she did it in an obnoxious way. Asking him, "But who in your school aspires to grow up and be a cop?" is great. Interrupting him when he starts to answer and smugly saying,

It might help to keep the focus on Ferguson if there were more articles on its citizens.

.....If this was a Republican would you be so quick to make excuses? Is this another #NotALL situation?

Well I am under the impression she is taking responsibility on behalf of the publication (correct me if I'm wrong).

Yeah. That's pretty much a non-apology, because they never just flat out say what's wrong with it. Tone-deaf and out-of-touch are true, but that's just the beginning.

I'm really not getting this. I'm a white lady, for christ's sake, and even I got that by mentioning the fact that women of color have had it much worse when it comes to pretty much everything, that didn't discount white victims. THE FUCKING FUCK.

There is always the option to name the film something completely different. "Africa" and "Kenya" aren't the only two options.

Yeah, no. Fuck that.

It drives me up the wall when people say Africa when they 're talking about a specific place. How hard is it to refer to the country you're talking about? There's really no excuse. I mean, I like Angelina, but damn.

you know how white women talk about sexism in regards to stories like this? with women of color, we're affected by both sexism and racism so we speak from that point of view. gabrielle union also works with/support anti-sex trafficking groups whose victims/survivors are predominately girls/women of color.

In response to the first response you got, you weren't actually begging for forgiveness from anyone because based on the questions you asked then answered in your first comment, followed by your final opinion, you weren't looking for anyone to contribute anything. Your mind is already made up so the snarky response
