As I recall, the people in Chicago cheered because they KNEW it would be a self-destructive shitshow that would endanger some of the greatest natural treasures the city had, all so the mayor at the time (Emanuel?) could come off looking more powerful.

GROUP HUG

Wanting to share that I have been a Bernie supporter, but I am so very proud to be voting for, and supporting Hillary Clinton. I did tear up at the end of the roll call, because I was proud that Sanders did the right thing and pledged his support to Clinton.

Women and minorities have been dutifully pulling the lever for white men for decades (when they were allowed to at all) and you never heard from them even a fraction of the hysterics that Sanders supporters have been displaying during the DNC because they didn’t get their #1 choice.

I’m not crying you’re crying!

To the diehard Bernie people crying in these comments and, according to my TV screen, literally crying at the convention:

Yayyyyy, Silvertiger!!!!!!! So glad your wait has paid off!!!!!! xoxo

Congratulations. I’ve been a big Hillary detractor but when glorious Michelle pointed out that we (I’m in my 20s) pointed out that we take for granted a woman could become president the history of it hit me

My mom said she saw what she thought she would never see in her lifetime. A black POTUS and now the 1st woman presidential nominee for the democratic party.

Um, they get that they’re supporting a “multi billionaire”, right?

Omg guys, this roll call! So much love! As a resident of ohio, i teared up when Obergefell spoke on behalf of the OH delegation.

I’m 66 years old. I became a feminist when I was 5, and my older sister was told she could “join” a model airplane club my father belonged to. She could pay dues, but not attend meetings or meet because she was a girl.(My father promptly “unjoined” that club!) I’ve been waiting 61 years for today.

It’s almost a sense of relief, too, like finally this will happen so I can stop wishing for it. It’s something I’ve thought about since I was a kid and first wondered to myself why only men got to be president.

Same age, same feels.

My 84 year old mother has dementia but is still lucid enough to know what’s going on (even if she forgets it 15 minutes later), and she is so so so excited at Hillary Clinton being elected president. This election is for these wonderful women as much as it is for any of us.

She hasn’t won yet, so find your local Democratic party and get to work!

My grandmother was 89 when she passed away a month ago and in hospice at the end when she was starting to be pretty unaware and we knew it would be over soon we just went ahead and told her Hillary had been elected and my grandmother, the lifelong democrat who went back to college in her 40s, was so happy. So we need

I know I’m like 10 minutes away from starting my monthly grind but I am emotionally unstable in the best way. I am sobbing again because of this woman WHO WATCHED HER MOTHER VOTE IN THE FIRST ELECTION THAT INCLUDED WOMEN and also because my own three daughters are going to witness a woman elected president of these

I'm not crying...you're crying.

I won't lie, I teared up when she cast her votes.
